DEB PLUYM

Deb Pluym is a devoted singing teacher who has a bachelors in teaching and more than 20 years of singing and performing experience.

In her music career, she was a successful soloist in the gospel choir ‘Inside Out’ which went on to record its own albums and perform with artists such as Diana Ross and Stevie Wonder.

Deb has also been involved in conducting, training and directing several choirs and hundreds of people for 10 years. As a choir conductor and vocalist, she has been part of many bestselling album recordings with audiences up to 20.000.

Besides Deb’s teaching and training experience, she is also a passionate songwriter who offers her students a chance to develop their own songwriting skills.

Deb is committed to creating a warm, safe and encouraging teaching environment where her students can reach their full vocal potential and thoroughly enjoy the process.

JAMES GALLAWAY

“James is extremely encouraging and motivates my playing. I enjoy my guitar lessons with him since he is always helpful, positive and patient. James Gallaway is an experienced guitar teacher with a Bachelor of Education from the University of Melbourne. He has accreditation with the Australian Music Examination Board and has been involved with Everyone Can Sing for many years.

James is experienced in teaching all ages and levels, from young children to adults. James is known to be an encouraging teacher that will make you feel comfortable and supported. He will always make an effort to tailor his lessons to the specific needs, pace and goals of the individual student.

As a teacher, performer and songwriter, James is especially interested in fostering creativity in his students. He also loves focusing on the act of performance and how his students can infuse songs with qualities that engage and entertain an audience.

RUTH GRØNBECH-DAM

Ruth is a vocal coach who has 15 years of solo and band performing experience under her belt. She is also a songwriter with extensive recording experience. She is a popular teacher at Everyone Can Sing and also trains up other teachers.

With a University degree in social work, a degree in creative arts specialising in vocals, and currently studying musical theatre at AIM, Ruth has the ability to bring out the best in everyone as a person, artist and performer.

What makes Ruth unique is that she has extensive experience in working, counselling and leading a variety of people from all walks of life; from children, young people, families to adults. Her passion is to help people find vocal freedom and to empower them to find their true and unique voice.

Ruth is an extremely approachable teacher who will not only offer you the skills to develop your voice but make you feel right at home in the process.

EMILY SMITH

When Emily’s grandmother- a professional radio and musical theatre singer- started giving her vocal lessons at the tender age of three, she knew that she was in it for life! Today, with over 15 years of band and songwriting experience, Emily is a versatile coach who combines her nearly 10 years of education experience with her soon to be completed Masters of Art Therapy.

“Music is healing” Emily states. “As a vocal coach I use my education skills to provide a holistic and embodied approach to singing and creativity.” Emily understands the courage it takes to find your voice and be heard, and has a knack for creating safe and encouraging spaces for students to grow and learn. She works with both adults and children, as well as complete beginners and more advanced performers.

Emily is the Choir Director of Everyone Can Sing (all are welcome- please contact us for more information) and also provides songwriting sessions for those interested.

CARMELO MANZONE

With almost 11 million views worldwide, Carmelo’ s audition lead him to be a finalist of the popular TV show ‘The X Factor’.  But it didn’t end there: Besides releasing a single that topped the iTunes Soul and RnB charts and crossing over to the world of musical theatre, Carmelo started studying Psychology as a way of drawing out the best in other people through the art of vocal coaching.

Carmelo continues to work on his own craft as a performer but is equally passionate about investing into other singers, from beginners to advanced. He also focusses on helping students develop their career path, transitioning them from the classroom to the stage.

I've been taking lessons with Emily for a few months. They are a highlight of my week. She's fantastic- especially good at helping nervous singers feel at ease. She uses different techniques and exercises to work on things like tone, vocal strength and projection. Even after a relatively short period of lessons my pitch and tone have improved and my confidence is slowly growing. I highly recommend Emily as a teacher.

I can't recommend Emily enough! She has been such an amazing teacher! I have always loved singing but would never have had the courage to sing in front of anyone. Emily has spent time to understand who I was, what I wanted to be able to do, what was the right way to engage with me to help me to get the best of my capabilities and even help me to develop my voice beyond what I would have never hoped to be able to reach. A few months ago I thought I could sing but really I was just making noise. Thanks to Emily I can sing! She showed me how to control my breathing and correct my tone. All my lessons are unique to me! Deb has done incredible things for my singing. When I came to her I had hardly any range, an extremely fatigued voice from years of singing without proper technique, and I couldn't sing for more than half an hour a day. Within a week or two of seeing her, I was able to sing for 2 hours straight without wrecking my voice! Within a few months she expanded my range substantially and improved the tone of my voice to the point that it was completely transformed, and finally I was able to sing at a volume that could easily be heard above an acoustic guitar. If you want to train your voice up to improve your sound and range and be able to sing in a way that cares and protects your voice rather than straining it, look no further than Deb, you won't be disappointed!!!read more

I’ve had the pleasure of being a student of Deb for a number of years. Not knowing how to sing at all she has built my singing voice scratch to where it is today! I have greatly improved my pitch and the tone of my voice. She has also sky rocketed the quality of my song writing and helped me develop creative and amazing melodies. If it wasn’t for Deb I don’t think the quality of my songs would be where it is today. I’ve also had the pleasure to take lessons from Carmelo over the 6 months, who has taught me how to improve my belting in only a short period of time. Carmelo has a great knack of using different techniques to quickly change the quality of your tone and voice projection. He’s also been great in improving the confidence of my live performance by not only giving vocal guidance but psychological tips on how to deal with anxiety and stage fright. Every lesson I have with Carmelo I feel like my voice improves! I’ve also worked with the amazing Ruth for a few lessons. She has great knowledge of the anatomy the voice and how it works. In only a few lessons she gave me a better understanding of vocal resonance and vibration which allowed me to reach the higher notes I was struggling with. The teachers at Every One Can Sing are extremely welcoming and friendly and provide a great community of support. Emily is incredible. She gives proper tailored constructive advice that works. There isn’t a genre beyond her. She also picks up tunes in about a second and can support you through a song whether you need a backing track, have forgotten the tune or lost your place. Most of all is her brilliant attitude. She’s bubbly as anything and truly knows how to help you feel completely at ease. She’s probably the only person I am comfortable singing in front of. Emily for the win!

I started having weekly lessons with Deb in early 2014. She truly is wonderful teacher who cares deeply about all her students. Every lesson is fun, and I come out feeling lighter even if I entered the lesson exhausted or had had a terrible day. My vocal range, my technique and my stage confidence all improved because of Deb. Deb’s lessons are excellent. She has a knack of making even the most nervous of singers (me) feel at ease and is really skilled at picking up on and working through any weaknesses in your technique. If you’re focused on a singing goal she will get you there, with further chances to perform in groups and at open mic nights. But if you’re keen just to use music as a form of expression and therapy with no particular aim besides for the fun of it then you’re guaranteed a thoroughly enjoyable time and to come away from your lesson with a smile on your face and a song in your heart.read more

So let me break down Debs for you. She's a boss. Her level of passion and expertise is parralled only by her ability to make you feel instantly comfortable. i have never taken vocal lessons before, so I was nervous, scepticle and apprehensive to try. The first lesson, I walked in to a very comfortable studio room. Deb was so friendly and chilled, which took a huge amount of nerves off of my shoulders. We started by talking about why i was there and what my goals were and then bam! We started; grass doesn't grow under her feet i suppose, and she was fantastic to learn from. I've only been to my fourth lesson today and have already reached a personal goal of mine. She is honest about pushing me past what I've allways known my limits to be. Deffinately hooked. No matter what your style is, the environment is dedicated to celebrating music and expression. (she helps me sing from matt corby to beyonce). If your curious, give it a try. I've been taking professional singing lessons with Debs on and off again since mid 2013. I only stopped for awhile due to my health (cancer) but back into it now regardless! Debs encourages me, makes singing fun, helps me reach higher and I have confidence in myself and in my singing ability. Not only this but we've become friends and went out to coffee a few times when I wasn't taking lessons. Debs is a teacher and a friend. A very kind and professional soul. I've been with Deb for over two years now. She has been absolutely increadible in helping develop my vocal range, explore different styles of music, and overcome the roadblocks to self expression.
